Christ died, but that was not the end. He ascended on high and gave gifts to men. Amoung these gifts were men who were to serve the church. Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers to edify and build up the Lord's people in our most holy faith. There are two distict groups, apostles and prophets are foundational and unique. The others are ordinary. We do not have apostles and prophets living today.

It is amazing how many unities there are in the christian realm. May we have a willingness to say with the hymn writer, "I'm not ashamed to own my Lord or to defend his cause." In the early church some christians were thrown to the lions for simply saying that Jesus is Lord. They were willing to recognise civil authority but would not put Ceasar higher than Christ

"There is one body" the glorious body of Christ, the church. There is really only one church on earth, though there are different denominations etc. We are a local church and there are other evangelical churches on in the Isle of Man. The local church is the local expression of the body of the one body. The one holy catholic church has nothing to do with Romanism! Regeneration is needful to belong to the one body.
