What does it mean to be a Christian? Is it really just a list of do’s and don'ts? Are we just a group of people trying to do our best in an imperfect world? If you are trying to live out the command to love your neighbour as yourself does that make you a good Christian? No, thinking like this totally misses the point of what being a Christian is. Being a Christian is not based on your attempts to do good things nor is it about carrying out religious rituals. The essence of the Christian faith is explained very clearly in the verses before us in 1 Cor 15:1–11.
